“Farewell”

As I thought about this month’s theme, “Farewell and Hello”, I thought I would write to the students who will be graduating from Keisen University. Many students, like myself many years ago, think that education ends after university. In reality, education is not limited to school. As John Dewey, the American educator, once said, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself. “

This is what I would like to tell my graduating students at Keisen University: university may have prepared you to find employment but you never stop learning particularly, about life. In school, teachers asked many questions for you to find answers. I trust you also, were able to formulate your own questions. Albert Einstein said “The important thing is not to stop questioning.” It is my hope that you will never be satisfied with just seeking answers. Truly, you learn by discovering answers to your own questions.

University graduation is only the beginning; your learning continues from here. I once read this proverb, “Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere.” My parting words to you are, to take this “treasure” and share it with others whom you will meet in your path of life.
