「Autumn Sports」

Have you ever run a full marathon race? You may think that it is impossible but it’s very possible. Although I love to play sports, I was not an experienced runner at all, I was just a “beginner”. With adequate training, however, almost anyone can complete a full marathon.

I started preparing for the December Honolulu Marathon, about six months before, in June. I began running short distances every other weekday and on the weekend I would have my “long run”, a distance of 10 kilometers. Every two kilometers or so, I would walk for a minute and then run for another two kilometers and then walk and run. I followed this routine every week until I built up enough endurance and distance. By the end of November, I was able to complete about 35 kilometers with many walk breaks in between.

The Honolulu Marathon enjoyed the participation of over 28,000 runners with more than 60% of the runners from Japan. The weather was perfect and runners could enjoy the breathtaking view of the beach sunset and Diamond Head. At the end of the race I was completely exhausted but it was a life experience that I will never forget. Please give it a try!
