Which came first, the chicken or the egg? There is no clear answer to this question. Luckily, for some other questions, there is a clearer answer. For example: what are the inspirations behind the designs of some everyday objects?

The sources of inspiration behind the design of everyday objects can vary greatly depending on the designer and the specific product. Many designers look to the natural world for inspiration when designing everyday objects. For example, the shape of a leaf might inspire the design of a chair, or the pattern on a butterfly's wings might inspire the design of a textile. Some designers often look to the past for inspiration, whether it's in the form of traditional crafts, historical art movements, or vintage industrial design. The culture and values of a particular society can also be a source of inspiration for designers. For example, the minimalist design aesthetic that originated in Japan has had a significant influence on the design of everyday objects around the world.
Some everyday objects are designed with a specific purpose in mind, and the function of the object is often the primary source of inspiration. Designers may look to optimise the function of an object by creating a more efficient or ergonomic design. As technology advances, designers are often inspired by new materials, manufacturing techniques, and capabilities. This can lead to the creation of innovative and futuristic designs.

Overall, the sources of inspiration behind the design of everyday objects are varied and can be influenced by many different factors, including aesthetics, functionality, culture, and technology. To understand more about the design process, Germainゼミ students went to visit "The Original" exhibition at the 21_21 Design Sight Gallery in Roppongi.

Using Advertising (広告), and the language of adverts and CMs, to learn English, understand other societies and the ways advertising influences them and us. My main focus is on the representation of gender in advertising, and how that affects men and women's perception of themselves and others.
